We source from small- and large-scale sesame farmers in Tanzania, focusing on traceable tonnage. The seeds pass our stringent quality checks before they are accepted into our system. We work directly with farmers to improve yields, quality, and incomes.

Sesame (Sesamun indicum) is one of the oil seeds and nuts which are grown in Tanzania. Sesame is cultivated in about 2M hectors of land amounting to about 700,000 tons per year.

Sesame seeds are tiny, flat oval seeds with a nutty taste and a delicate, almost invisible crunch. Sesame cultivated in Tanzania come in a host of different colors, depending upon the variety, but the main colors for Tanzania produce is white.

Sesame seeds are highly valued for their high content of sesame oil, an oil that is very resistant to rancidity. Sesame seeds are the main ingredients in both tahini and the Middle Eastern sweet treat, halvah.
